More Details About Ghanaian Man Who Killed Himself After Fatally Shooting Wife in Columbus

The individual responsible for a tragic incident in Columbus, Ohio, where a 49-year-old Ghanaian man shot his wife and then took his own life, has been identified as Michael Amoako. He held the position of Sumankwahene in the Asanteman Association in Columbus and had a background as a former footballer. The deceased sent an audio recording to his family prior to the incident, accusing his wife, Harriet Yaa Gyamfua Aboagye, of planning to leave him to marry her ex-boyfriend from Ghana. Unfortunately, his family did not listen to the audio in time to prevent the incident. The couple had been living in the US for several years, and the wife was currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at a local hospital.

On the evening of June 7, 2023, the Columbus police responded to a domestic violence report that escalated into a shooting. When they arrived at the scene, they found Michael Amoako dead and his wife, Yaa Gyamfua, critically injured from gunshot wounds. Their three young sons sought help from a neighbor after hearing the gunshots and being locked out of the house by their father. The couple had been known as active members of the Ghanaian community in Columbus, and their neighbors expressed shock and sadness over the tragedy. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Amoako had shot his wife before taking his own life. The Columbus Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation due to the severity of the woman's injuries.

This incident is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the need for support and intervention to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
