Mother sells baby for over GH¢15,000 to repay a bank loan

In distressing news, a mother has been arrested for allegedly selling her 18-month-old baby for Ghc 15,532 to repay a bank loan. The 33-year-old woman, Olaide Adekunle, was apprehended by the police in Ogun State after her husband reported her to the authorities.

He explained that she had left their home with their daughter, Moridiat Rasaq, on March 15, 2023, but returned without the child. After an investigation was launched, the mother confessed to selling the baby to an unidentified person in Lagos for 600,000 naira.

This was to settle a loan she had taken from a microfinance bank. This is a heartbreaking situation, and we hope that justice is served for the innocent child who has been separated from her mother.
