One of the most humbling moments in her life, according to a recently appointed member of the Electoral Commission (EC), was when she went through a divorce and realised the importance of focusing on her relationship with God.

Rev. Akua Ofori Boateng is also the first female programme director in the Anglican Diocese.

Although she attended church as a child, she admitted on Joy Prime's Prime Morning that she was never very interested in church life or spiritual matters.

To be honest, it was going through a divorce that brought me to the point where I started paying attention to God.

I used to go to church regularly; I just drive my mum there, hang out outside, go in for communion and come back out, she added.

I remember when I went to the seminary and we introduced ourselves, everyone was a youth pastor, you know, people were in church, me, I'm a member of my church, I pay my dues and that's it. I wasn't in the Scriptural Union (SU), I wasn't a servant, I was nothing.

Rev. Ofori Boateng said she was very fortunate to have reasonably well-off parents who took excellent care of her and made sure she had a smooth life until things started to go wrong.

She felt her life had hit a brick wall after going through a divorce, becoming a single parent and even losing her job along the way.

But it just made me question my actions and make me say, What am I doing?

I had a pretty good life; I went to GIS, I went to university, I had a career, and everything else just sort of happened for me, so when this happened I thought, Wow, my life is supposed to be going well. It really led me to what people call a come-to-Jesus moment.

She added: But I think that's the way God works with us, that he brings us to a point where I physically hit a wall, I went through a divorce, I lost my job, everything went wrong.

The Anglican priest said she would give love another chance if it pleased God and the timing was right.
