After 49 years of marriage, a woman says her husband has no idea she has saved £315,000 as an exit fund.

An astonishing revelation has been made by a woman who has been married for 49 years.

She has revealed that she has set aside £315,000 as an emergency fund in case her husband leaves her.

One woman took to social media to discuss the lengths she went to in order to give herself a backup plan in the midst of the rising number of divorce proceedings.

In a tweet, she said her mother had suggested she put money aside in case she wanted to end her marriage.

"My mother advised me to put money aside when I got married in case my marriage didn't work out; I've been together for 49 years. The 'exit' fund has grown to 315,000. My husband doesn't know," the woman wrote.

But despite being married for 49 years, some people's reactions to her story ranged from wise to desperate.
