NPP petitions CID to arrest Mahama, check out the reason

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has requested the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take into custody the former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, and the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, for their alleged treasonable statements.

The NPP claims that Mr Mahama has repeatedly referred to the 2024 general elections as a "do or die" affair for the NDC.

The NPP alleges that the NDC has frequently resorted to violence and intimidation tactics during elections, and that this has been confirmed by their presumptive 2024 presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, who reportedly declared that the NDC has revolutionary roots and that nobody can outdo them when it comes to violence.

The NPP further accuses other leading members of the NDC, including Johnson Asiedu Nketia, of making similar threats and malicious comments.

According to the NPP, in his victory speech after being elected National Chairman, Asiedu Nketia said that the NDC would fight the 2024 general elections to win a second independence for Ghana and that they were prepared to sacrifice everything, including their lives, for an NDC victory.

On the other hand, the NDC's Director of Legal Affairs, Abraham Amaliba, filed a petition with the IGP on April 11, 2023, to apprehend the Minister of Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

According to Mr Amaliba, Mr Acheampong made remarks indicating that the NPP will use both fair and foul means to remain in power in the 2024 general elections, adding that the NPP has the men to do so. Mr Amaliba submitted audio and video recordings of Mr Acheampong's statements as evidence.
