Newborn Baby Left Fighting For Life After Dad Shoots Pregnant Mum Dead

She was taken to a nearby hospital right away, but authorities say she died there. Doctors were able to help her give birth, but police didn't say anything about how the baby was doing.

A newborn baby has been left to fight for its life. This is a very shocking thing to happen.

Authorities and family members say that the baby is in critical condition. He was born a few weeks before his due date, after his mother was allegedly shot and killed by an Amazon worker in Minnesota.

Police haven't said what the boy's name is, but loved ones wrote on a GoFundMe that he is "fighting for his life" after the shooting on January 8 that killed his mom, 31-year-old Kyla O'Neal. The fundraiser said that O'Neal was nine months pregnant when she was killed.

A press release from the Lakeville Police Department says that the mother was found with a gunshot wound inside a car in the parking lot of an Amazon fulfillment center just before 7 p.m. local time.

She was taken to a nearby hospital right away, but authorities say she died there. Doctors were able to help her give birth, but police didn't say anything about how the baby was doing.

Katina O'Neal, the woman's mother, told CBS News that her grandson "lost a lot of oxygen to the brain, so he can't think right now." She also said that she "needs him to pull through this."

Kyla O'Neal also has three other children who are 10, 7, and 2 years old, according to the GoFundMe page set up to help pay for her kids' care and funeral costs.

Authorities quickly found out that the alleged shooter was a 32-year-old Amazon worker named Donte Raphael McCray.

The fundraiser says that the man accused of killing Kyla O'Neal by shooting her is the father of the new baby. She also ended her relationship with him shortly before she died, according to her mom and the news source.

Katina O'Neal told CBS News, "She didn't deserve what happened to her." "Her future looked bright."

The department said that McCray, who lives in Minneapolis, is being held at the Dakota County Jail on a charge of second-degree manslaughter.

According to McCray's criminal record, which KKTV got a copy of, a judge told him last year that he couldn't have any guns because he had been convicted of a crime.

It is not clear right away if he has entered a plea or hired a lawyer who can speak for him.
