“Once a man pays your bride price, he has paid for your life” — Marriage counselor

A marriage counsellor has sparked debate on social media after claiming that a woman's life is correlated with the bride price paid by her husband.

Despite the enlightenment and feminist mantra lauded by some women, Jane Chukwu made the claim in a Facebook post while advising women on how to sustain a marriage.

She claimed that once a man pays a woman's bride price, it legally establishes his total control over her life, necessitating the requirement that she satisfy her spouse at all times.

“Forget civilization and feminist brouhaha, when a man pays your bride price, he has automatically paid for your life and the life you live isn’t yours anymore, the life you now have is to please him and make him happy all the days of his life,” she wrote.
