Otumfuo calls for clean campaign

Francis Addai Nimoh, and by extension all presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have been advised by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to conduct a civilised and insult-free campaign.

The Asantehene says he is aware of Addai Nimoh's respectability and expects him to continue to demonstrate this admirable quality.

To win the forthcoming NPP elections, Otumfuo advised Addai Nimoh and the other NPP presidential candidates to focus and campaign on what they can achieve for their party.

When Addai Nimoh paid him a courtesy call, Otumfuo said: "Don't insult anybody during your campaign. I implore you to explain and campaign on what you can do to help the NPP win the election.”

On Wednesday, Addai Nimoh led a crowd of party supporters to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to formally seek the blessings of the Otumfuo.

The Asantehene declared emphatically that all the aspirants for the NPP presidency were his "grandchildren" and reminded them that God would choose one of them to be the party's flagbearer.

He also pleaded with the NPP delegates, who will cast the votes to choose the party's presidential candidate, to choose a candidate who will win over Ghanaians as a whole and not just members of the NPP family.

Addai Nimoh, who contested for the NPP presidency in 2014 but came third, expressed confidence that with Otumfuo's support and wise counsel, he would win this time around.

He claimed that as a native of Sekyere in the Ashanti Region, it was prudent for him to seek the approval of the Asantehene before officially launching his political campaign.

Speaking to journalists later, Addai Nimoh urged the NPP delegates to support him, saying he was the best candidate to help the NPP achieve its lofty goal of ending the eight-year cycle in government.

"We want to serve for 12 and 16 years, but to break the eight-year streak in 2024 and continue in office, we need a fresh face who is untainted, who is not a member of this government and who is a unifier.”

He said: "I am the right person who possesses all the above unique attributes, hence my passionate appeal to the NPP delegates to vote overwhelmingly for me to lead our party to break the eight.”

Former NPP Member of Parliament for Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Addai Nimoh made it sound strongly that he has the potential to revitalise the NPP in all the 275 constituencies across the country.

He insisted that he was the right candidate to lead the nation to prosperity as president in his renewed appeal to NPP delegates to vote overwhelmingly for him when the NPP goes to the polls.
