Police say that a 30-year-old PhD student set himself on fire and tried to kill a woman at the Government Institute of Science (GIS) in Aurangabad on Monday after she said no to his marriage proposal. He died from his injuries.

Gajanan Munde was named as the person who had died. The police say that he followed the woman to college, where he set himself on fire and tried to kill her by hugging her. The police in Osmanpura filed a case against Munde.

During their preliminary investigation, the police found out that Munde wanted to marry her, but she kept saying no.

"Neither of them went there because they were both getting their PhDs at a different college in Aurangabad. The woman went to the GIS to meet an assistant professor. "When she was in the professor's cabin, the suspect broke in, locked the door from the inside, and doused himself with gasoline," the police said.
