Police Commander Hospitalized: Broken Legs, Arrests, and Indefinite Closure Shake Community

According to reports, there was a clash between students of St. Bernadette's Technical Institute in the Upper East Region and the Navrongo Municipal Police Commander, ASP Kingsley Kanda, and his team. The Commander suffered a broken leg injury, and the three officers also suffered various injuries and were hospitalized at the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo.

Joseph Adongo, the Municipal Chief Executive, explained that they were called to the school to intervene in a misunderstanding between the students and management. The incident happened when the students wanted to organize an inter-ethnic football match between schools, but the authorities prevented them from doing so. The students resisted the directive, and the situation escalated into a clash with the management, leading to the authorities of the school requesting for police support.

As a result, 27 of the students have been arrested and arraigned in court as of Monday, 15 May 2023. The school has also been closed down indefinitely.
