Police Make Arrests in Violent Attack on Officer: Extortion Allegations Surface

Four individuals have been taken into custody by the police for allegedly attacking a team of officers in Axim Division on March 9, 2023.

According to reports, the group took possession of a service rifle's magazine and several mobile phones belonging to the officers during the attack, which prompted an immediate intelligence operation to capture the suspects.

After about three weeks of the operation, the authorities arrested Kojo Siah (aka Mozey), Emmanuel Mensah (aka Kofi Asamoah), Maxwell Cudjoe, and Agyabu Haruna Dissawu on March 28, 2023, for their suspected participation in the attack.

Meanwhile, Kwame Ato Asare Ani, the prime suspect, remains at large, although a search of his residence resulted in the retrieval of three pump-action shotguns, two machetes, and eight BB refilled cartridges.

A pump-action shotgun, two live refilled BB cartridges, and an unregistered motorbike were also seized from his unregistered Honda CRV vehicle.

During the investigation, police were presented with video footage that showed the Axim patrol team members pleading with the gang, while the gang alleged extortion by the police officers.

The police's professional standards bureau (PPSP) is currently investigating the allegations of extortion. The police have remanded all the suspects arrested so far in custody, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
