Policed Killed Suspected Armed Robber In Intense Gun Battle At Kintampo

A suspected armed robber was killed in a gunfight with the Ghana Police Service's Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU).

Six other people, including the person who died, were robbing women going to the Buipe Market in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region.

MyNewsGh saw a police situation report that said the police in Kintampo, in the Bono East Region, got a call saying that there was a robbery going on between Kintampo and Babatorkuma.

Armed police responded to the call and found the thieves at Bolla Junction on the Kintampo–Babatokuma highway road. They were robbing passengers in a KIA Spectra Taxi Cab with the registration number GW 6308-13.

When about six thieves saw the police car, they opened fire on it, breaking the windshield and two side windows.

The police team fired back at the thieves, making them run away. After calming things down, the police searched the area and found the body of an adult male of Fulani descent who was wearing black pants with an African print.

A search of him turned up a green polythene bag with two Tecno keypad mobile phones, one infinix keypad mobile phone, one Tecno spark smartphone, twenty-two (22) live AAA cartridges, twenty (20) live A.K 47 assault rifle ammunitions, five spent AAA cartridges ammunitions, and twenty GH20.00 in cash.

The body was taken to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital, where it was confirmed that he was dead. The body was then put in the hospital's mortuary so that it could be kept and identified.
