Presidency deceiving Ghanaians with Al Jazeera letter – Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his belief that the letter circulating on social media concerning the Presidency's demand for an apology from Al Jazeera is an attempt to deceive Ghanaians.

He believes that the government is pretending to be angry with Al Jazeera for broadcasting a documentary that made baseless claims about the President's alleged personal benefits from an infrastructure contract. Speaking on The Keypoints on TV3/3FM on Saturday, April 29, Gyamfi noted that even the Al Jazeera representatives in Accra had not received the letter from the Presidency.

In contrast, former Deputy Transport Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, who was also on the programme, said that it was only a matter of time before Al Jazeera received and responded to the letter. He acknowledged that such correspondence could take time, but he was confident that the Doha-based organization would respond soon. On Thursday, April 27, the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, officially wrote to Al Jazeera Network, expressing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's displeasure about the documentary and demanding an apology and a retraction within seven days of receipt.
