Kenya's President William Ruto has defended his daughter Charlene Ruto against claims that there is a "First Daughter's Office."
Since her father was sworn in as president in September, Charlene Ruto has attended and spoken at a number of high-profile events and meetings.
In Kenyan law, there is no such office.
On Wednesday, the president said that such an office does not exist.
"Leave my daughter Charlene alone. These are kids, they're just being kids. You know very well that there is no such office. She's just being William Ruto's daughter, and sometimes she doesn't know the difference between the president and the father," Mr. Ruto told journalists.
People wondered if the president's daughter was using taxpayers' money for the things she did.
But last month, she said that the "Office of the First Daughter" was not being paid for with public money.
"The Office of the First Daughter is a private business," she said. It is not a constitutional office, and Kenyan taxpayers are not paying for it.
