Revealed: Christian Atsu Gave His First Porto Salary To The Church

Abdul Hayye Yartey, who was Christian Atsu's local manager, said the late footballer donated his first salary to a church in Ghana.

Atsu, who died in the earthquake in Turkey, was a youth product of FC Porto. He joined from Yartey's Cheetah FC in 2009.

Yartey says Atsu was a devout Christian who always tried to get his teammates to join him in church.

When Atsu passed the tests and started playing for Porto, he was paid 800 euros a month.

When Atsu sent Yartey the same amount via Western Union, Yartey was thrilled, thinking it was a gift. But Atsu told Yartey to give the money to the church instead.

"When Christian went to Porto and passed the tests there, Porto started paying him 800 euros a month," Yartey said in an interview with TV3.

"So Christian sent me 800 euros through Western Union. I was so happy because I thought he had sent me money, but then he called me. He told me that the 800 euros he sent was to be given to the church.”
