Royal Rendezvous: Otumfuo's Hilarious Kente Choice for King Charles III Unveiled

The King of the Asante Kingdom in Ghana, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, had a delightful encounter with King Charles III on May 4, 2023, at Buckingham Palace. This meeting took place prior to King Charles III's upcoming Coronation as the new King of England, which is scheduled for May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey. Over 2,000 guests have been invited to witness this significant event.

Accompanied by his wife, Lady Julia, the Asantehene had the privilege of witnessing the historic crowning moment of the UK monarch, a moment that hadn't occurred in 70 years since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

During the meeting, the Asantehene wore a vibrant Kente fabric, which holds deep meaning and symbolism. The fabric is handwoven and known for its uniqueness. Lady Julia, on the other hand, wore a kaba and slit outfit sewn with Kente cloth.

The Manhyia Palace's Twitter account revealed the significance behind the specific Kente cloth worn by the Asantehene. The fabric's name is "Wo sene wo y?nko a ?tan wo," which translates to "When you are better than your competitor, he envies you." The tweet, posted on May 4, was accompanied by pictures of the trio.

Kente cloth is renowned for its vibrant and colorful appearance and is typically worn by Ghanaians on special occasions. A photo of the couple with King Charles III made its way to the front page of major UK newspapers and tabloids, sparking nostalgia among social media users.
