There is no question that the woman in the pictures on this page is Sarafina, just as she was shown in the movie. But she has changed so much that it is hard to remember what she looked like before.

Read the rest of the post to find out what happened before you judge her or think she bleached her skin.

Sarafina's real name is Leleti Khumalo, and she has never bleached her skin or been born this way. She had brown skin when she was born and no white skin. She had vitiligo, a condition that not a lot of people know about.

This is what vitilo means:

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that spreads quickly and hurts the skin. Vitiligo can't be cured, which is a shame. It can affect the skin, eyes, mouth, hands, and sometimes even the whole body. The affected area turns white.

Unfortunately, this is what Sarafina is going through right now. Her body is being destroyed by this condition, which has made her skin white instead of black.

What she looks like now that her skin is white:

Vitiligo happens when the cells that make pigment die and pigment production stops. When this happens, the skin turns white over time, and it can never be fixed again.

Leleti said that the first thing that happened to her was that her leg turned white and she started to see white spots on it when she was 18 years old. She wasn't worried about the disease at the time, so it didn't hurt.

She got married after that and had triplets, but one of them died, so she only had two kids.
