STRIKE! School Feeding caterers demand better treatment from the government

The School Feeding Programme's caterers have declared a nationwide strike due to the government's inability to pay them their owed amount and increase the amount they receive per child.

The caterers, who hail from various regions across the country, convened in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, and emphasized that striking was their only option.

They lamented that the situation has put them in a tough economic situation. The caterers' leadership has urged members all over the country to join the strike to persuade the government to address their grievances promptly.

During a press conference, Gifty Asamoah, one of the caterers' leaders, informed the media that they have utilized all their funds and have not received any response from the government regarding when they will be paid their arrears.

She also claimed that, despite providing vital services in schools, school-feeding caterers are not given the same level of respect given to other professionals. As a result, the caterers are asking why the government is treating them differently.

Furthermore, they threatened to embark on a nationwide demonstration if their arrears are not paid as soon as possible. They believe that a contract is a contract, and their human rights should not be violated.
