Shock and Upsets: 16 NDC MPs by Losses in Saturday's Primaries

In the recent internal elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a considerable number of incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) lost their bids, resulting in them not being able to represent their constituents in the upcoming 2024 election. The primaries, held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, witnessed the defeat of several notable figures within the party.

Among the incumbents who faced defeat was Kwabena Donkor, the former Minister for Power and MP for Pru East. He lost to Lord Kwaku Boam, with Boam securing 474 votes compared to Donkor's 371 votes and Bright Fiawornu's 66 votes.

In addition, ABA Fuseini, a three-time MP for the Sagnerigu constituency, was defeated by Attah Issah, who obtained 801 votes. Likewise, Thomas Dalu, the incumbent MP for Chiana-Paga, lost his slot to a young businessman named Nikyema Alamzy, with Alamzy securing 488 votes against Dalu's 300 votes.

Simon Akibange Aworigo emerged victorious with 475 votes, defeating three other aspirants, including the incumbent MP for Navrongo Central, Samson Tangombu Chiragia.

Edward Bawa, the MP for Bongo, also suffered defeat at the hands of Charles Bawaduah. This outcome highlights the changing dynamics within the NDC and the party members' decisions in the primaries.

In total, there were 16 incumbent MPs who lost their slots in the internal elections.
