According to reports, a female police officer was allegedly beaten in Calabar, the capital of Cross River, by a member of the Nigerian army.

According to reports, a scuffle between army and police officers has briefly closed the Mobil intersection on the Murtala Mohammed highway in the state.

On Saturday morning, trouble started when an army official attacked a police officer who was controlling traffic at a major crossing after she had stopped his car.

The female police officer appeared assaulted and had blood dripping from her head.

The officer allegedly punched the female officer hard, causing serious bleeding around the eye area. The officer was wearing a red t-shirt and shorts and was driving a black Toyota Corolla with the registration number Lagos, AGL 175 HA.

The army officer, who was present throughout the confrontation with his colleagues, has since turned tail.

His colleagues, who were, according to reports, en route to the barracks along Ekorinim, disembarked from their car when they saw their fellow officer engaged in a conflict.

They were said to have joined in the quarrel with officers from the state housing police station before helping their colleague escape. 
It was also reported that another female army personnel assaulted another female police officer for attempting to take pictures of the soldiers who arrived to save their colleague.
Efforts to reach Irene Ugbo, the state’s police spokesperson, were not successful, and she did not respond to calls and messages.
