Tarkwa: Soldiers seizes over 20,000 pieces of illegal explosives

On April 15, 2023, the Ghana Armed Forces took action against the illegal use of explosives by seizing a significant amount of ammonium nitrate and dynamite charges in Tarkwa. The personnel discovered roughly 10,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, which had been disguised in sacks of flour and rice, and around 20,000 illegal explosive charges created from ammonium nitrate.

The operation, led by the 2nd Infantry Battalion, targeted the Mohammed Brothers Company Limited and Dakete Mines in Tarkwa, where the illegal explosives were being stored.

The military action was based on intelligence that aimed to put a stop to the production, sale, and use of illegal dynamite in mining regions of the country.

As a result of the operation, 13 individuals were arrested, including eight Chinese, three Togolese, an Ivorian, and a Nigerian. The Ghana Armed Forces' efforts demonstrate their commitment to protecting the safety of citizens and ensuring that illegal activities are stopped.
