The next NDC government will investigate and prosecute corrupt NPP officials - Mahama

The incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, according to former President John Dramani Mahama, will investigate alleged corrupt deals and misappropriations under the New Patriotic Party-led government and prosecute those found responsible.

He claimed that mismanagement and corruption were to blame for the financial hardship Ghanaians were facing and urged the electorate to support the NDC to make things better.

He claimed that because of our debt burden, the downgrading by all the rating agencies and the skyrocketing inflation, the people have been plunged into utter destitution and suffering.

"I never wanted my political rivals to lose, but this NPP government has failed to listen to opposing perspectives, resulting in the introduction of ill-conceived programmes that have cost the economy and the public purse," the speaker said.

As part of his three-day campaign tour of the Volta Region, the former president made these remarks to hundreds of NDC supporters, district and branch executives at separate engagements in the Ketu North and South constituencies at Dzodze and Aflao respectively.

He claimed that the government's poor economic management, which had led to job losses, high unemployment and poverty, was the result of ignorance and insensitivity on many fronts.

Regardless of who or whose government was in charge, he said, his goal for Ghana was to see it develop.

In addition to Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mr Kojo Bonsu, a former Mayor of Kumasi, and Mr Ernest Kwaku Krobea, a UK-based Ghanaian businessman, former President Mahama is contesting for the flagbearership of the NDC.

He urged all NDC supporters, especially delegates, to do the right thing by casting their votes for the people who can best deliver in the party's presidential and parliamentary primaries in May this year.

"So that together we can remove the NPP from power and restore our people's lost hope and dignity".

Together with other national, regional and constituency executives, Mr Mahama is expected to tour more constituencies in the region. He launched his flagbearership campaign on Thursday, March 2, at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho under the theme "Building The Ghana That We Want Together".
