There’s nothing to show for ‘Planting for food and Jobs’ except imaginary figures – Manasseh Azure

Manasseh Azure Awuni, a renowned investigative journalist from Ghana, has lamented the rate at which the nation is pouring huge sums of money into pointless government initiatives.

The Fourth Estate editor cited the government's failed and overblown 'Planting for Food and Jobs' campaign.

He claims the scheme has been ineffective, but the Ministry of Agriculture continues to mislead Ghanaians.

Speaking at the University of Ghana's 75th anniversary lecture on Friday 3 March, Manasseh described the controversy over the national cathedral as a misplaced focus.

"Without honesty, we can invest in growing food and creating jobs, but there won't be any food or jobs created beyond the fictitious figures and untrue statements from the Ministry of Agriculture that have kept Fact-Check Ghana busy over the years.

According to the award-winning journalist, asking Germany for help in lobbying nations like China to cancel Ghana's huge debt is an obvious sign of a nation lacking integrity.

“Without integrity, we can invest in planting for food and jobs, but there won’t be food and jobs to show for it apart from imaginary figures and false claims from the Agric Ministry that have kept Fact-Check Ghana busy over the years.

“Without integrity, the highly misplaced national cathedral project will become an endless slideshow of scandals because people will still want to steal in the name of God’s church,” he noted.

“Without integrity, we will continue to beg Germany to go and beg China on our behalf because we cannot pay what we have borrowed,” read as transcribed in Manasseh’s tweet.
