"They're trying to George Floyd me" - See what happened before he was killed

Police in Los Angeles killed Patrisse Cullors' cousin after he was in a car accident.

Officers who showed up after the car accident repeatedly tased him while holding him down in the middle of the street, according to footage from his body camera and what his family said.

On Wednesday, January 11, video from the meeting on January 3 was made public.

It showed Keenan Anderson, a high school teacher and father of three who was 31 years old, pleading for help while being held down by several police officers.

He can be heard saying, "They're trying to George Floyd me," at one point.

One officer put his elbow on Anderson's neck while he was lying down, and then another shocked him for about 30 seconds straight before stopping and shocking him again for 5 seconds.

"My cousin asked for help, but nobody helped him. "He was killed," co-founder of the group Black Lives Matter Patrisse Cullors told the Guardian after seeing the LAPD video.

"No one should die in fear, panic, and fear for their life. My cousin thought he might die. He has spent the last 10 years watching a movement that tries to stop Black people from being killed. He was trying to protect himself because he knew what was at stake. No one was willing to take care of him."

Before Anderson died, the first police officer to arrive at the scene of the car accident at Venice and Lincoln boulevards around 3:30 p.m. found Anderson in the middle of the road saying, "Help me!"

The officer told him to go to the sidewalk and gave him instructions, such as "Stand up against the wall."

Anderson put his hands up and said, "I'm sorry. I apologize."

Anderson did what the officer told him to do and sat down on the street. After a few minutes, he seemed worried about how the officer was acting. He said things like, "I want people to see me" and "You're putting something on me."

Anderson eventually tried to run away, so the officer chased him on his motorcycle while shouting, "Get on the ground now!" and "Turn over on your stomach!"

As more officers came and held him down, Anderson kept saying, "Please help me" and "They're trying to kill me."

While Anderson was lying on his back on the ground, one of them put his elbow and body weight on his neck.

At this point, the officer who was standing on top of him yelled, "Turn over or I'll tase you!"

Anderson kept saying, "Help me," even though the officer told him to stop struggling.

Later, paramedics came to the scene and took him to the hospital, where the LAPD says he died four and a half hours later from a heart attack.
