Through Gabby's intervention, arrested Chinese 'galamseyers' were released - Prof Boateng

In a recent statement, former Environment Minister, Prof Frimpong Boateng, revealed that some Chinese individuals who were arrested for illegal mining in the Ashanti Region were released due to the intervention of President Akufo-Addo's cousin, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko. Prof Boateng explained that many soldiers who were providing security for Mr Otchere-Darko's client's company attacked the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) task force team and damaged the vehicle carrying journalists who were covering the IMCIM operations. The scenes were captured on camera and shown on Joy News.

In a 36-page document addressed to the President, the chief of staff, and the police, Prof. Boateng accused Mr Otchere-Darko and other government officials of obstructing his attempts to fight illegal mining. However, Mr Otchere-Darko denied the accusations, stating that he had not asked the minister to engage in any illegal activities or condone such actions. He explained that he only called Prof Boateng to seek information on his client, a mining company that had permits to operate in the country.

Despite Mr Otchere-Darko's denial, Prof Boateng insists that his intervention led to the release of the Chinese 'galamseyers' and accuses him of causing public disaffection for him. In response, Mr Otchere-Darko denies any wrongdoing and reminds Prof Boateng of the environmental damage caused by his client's company. Prof Boateng maintains that the former Minister has done more for the country and the world than Mr Otchere-Darko could ever dream of in a million years.
