Tragedy Strikes: 50 Churchgoers Injured in Multi-Car Collision

In a regrettable incident at the Menskrom Weija Junction on the Accra-Kasoa highway, approximately 50 members of Resurrection Power New Generation Church sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of a collision involving four cars. The vehicles involved were a Tata bus owned by the church, an older model Benz, a KIA Rio taxi, and a Toyota Vitz belonging to a police officer.

Eyewitnesses at the scene claimed that the police officer, who was traveling from the Kasoa tollbooth to Accra, made an incorrect overtaking maneuver, resulting in a collision with the church bus. As a result, the bus then collided with two other cars parked on the roadside when reaching the Weija junction traffic light.

During an interview with Adom News' Seth Kofi Adjei, several eyewitnesses placed blame on the police officer driving the Toyota Vitz for causing the accident. Unfortunately, there are reports that two church members may have lost their lives in the collision, while numerous others suffered severe injuries. The bus, carrying approximately 80 passengers, including children, was heavily impacted.

A taxi driver, whose vehicle was also affected, joined others in attributing the accident to the actions of the police officer. To ensure the smooth flow of traffic, personnel from the Ghana Fire Service and the police were present at the scene.

In conclusion, this incident involving multiple vehicles has resulted in a significant number of injuries among the church members, with some potentially losing their lives. The eyewitnesses have pointed towards the police officer's wrong overtaking maneuver as the cause of the accident. Efforts from the Ghana Fire Service and the police were made to maintain traffic orderliness at the site of the incident.
