Two men allegedly pose as ‘love gurus' to scam doctor of GH¢160,000 to change her love life

Police in India have arrested two Nigerians who are accused of pretending to be "love gurus" and scamming a female doctor out of N6.6m by saying they could cast a love spell and change her love life.

Okwuchukwu, who is 41, and Obiwuru Jonathan Uzaka, who is 35, both live in Uttam Nagar in Delhi. They were arrested on January 11, 2023, by Rachakonda Police. Michale Ajunda and Daniel, two of their friends, are on the run.

The woman who filed the complaint was an ophthalmologist from Kushaiguda, Hyderabad. She said she was going through a hard time and looked on Google for a love spell caster to help her with her love problems. She found a phone number for the person who needed help and called them.

The person who made the complaint told the police that the person who answered the phone said they were "love spell casters" from Uganda and would pray for her love.

The accused also asked for an initial transfer of Rs 1 lakh and got up to Rs 12.45 lakh by giving different reasons.

The person who filed the complaint searched online for "love spell caster" to find the scammers' phone number. She was looking for help with her love life and her career.

The police opened a case based on her complaint and gathered technical evidence. Inspector J. Narender Goud quickly sent a special team to arrest the suspects in Delhi and bring them to Hyderabad on transit remand.

The accused person has been sent back to court custody. The police found out that the four accused people came to India to run a business selling clothes and then came up with a plan to scam trusting Indians and make money after losing money in business. As part of the plan, they used brokers to open bank accounts and put ads on social media sites and Google.

Along with their phone numbers, they put up ads that said they could help with astrology, love spells, and other problems in life.

The police also learned that the suspects had done similar things in other parts of the country, and that the main suspect, Okwuchukwu, had already been arrested by Delhi Police.

The police warned people not to believe these ads on social media that claim to have answers to their problems.
