We’ll take Databank to court when Akufo-Addo leaves office – Kpebu

Martin Luther Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has expressed his intention to take legal action to recover all the profits made by Databank from Ghana's bonds after President Akufo-Addo's term in office ends.

He accused the Finance Minister, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, who is also the President's brother, of engaging in a conflict of interest by advising the government on loans that benefit his company. He believes that this act of corruption should not be allowed in any serious country.

Kpebu wants the NPP out of government before initiating legal action to retrieve the money. He was dismayed that the government allowed Databank to make hundreds of millions of dollars from Ghana's bonds while the people were suffering from poverty, lack of healthcare, and other problems. He said that he would not rest until the money was recovered.

Background:

On a TV program in August 2022, Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, a renowned broadcaster, had criticized the use of Databank, which belongs to the President's brother, as a transactional advisor for international loans taken by Ghana. He described this practice as nonsensical and foolish and accused Parliament of failing to prevent such conflicts of interest.
