She was born and raised in the Kenyan city of Murang'a. She didn't go to high school because she didn't have enough money to pay for school. In Nairobi, she worked as a house helper.

After two years of work, she met a man who asked her to marry him. Without telling her parents, she moved into his house and started living with him as a married couple. Her husband was nice at first, but then he changed after she had her second child.

Her husband joined a group that told its members that their wives had to be cut. He went with two old men who wanted to circumcise her one day. Since she is a Christian, she couldn't agree to be circumcised. Her husband was mad at her, so he hit her a few times.


She ran away from home and left him in charge of the kids. She rented a small house a few kilometers away from where they were living. Three young men attacked her one day as she was walking home around 7 p.m. They said that her husband sent them to kill her if she didn't go back to his house.

They beat her badly and then left her to die. She was lucky that a kind person took her to the hospital. Her husband was arrested, but he was still able to take the kids.
