Why Davido’s uncle has been sacked as Governor after just 62 days in office

The Osun Election Petitions Tribunal fired Governor Ademola Adeleke from his job in Osun State on Friday. This was a very bad thing for the state.

His time in office was only 62 days long.

The tribunal threw out the results of the July 16 Osun governorship election because the Independent National Electoral Commission did not follow the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or the Electoral Act as amended.

The PUNCH says... Adeleke, who ran for governor as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, was declared the winner of the July 16 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who was in charge of the election and is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, said that Adeleke got a total of 403,371 votes, which was more than the 375,027 votes that the incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC got. The race was very close.

In the election, which took place in 3,763 polling places in Osun's 30 local government areas (LGAs), the PDP won 17 LGAs and the APC won the other 13.

The PDP won in the LGAs of Ede North, Ede South, Ifelodun, Boluwaduro, Egbedore, Odo Otin, Osogbo, Ila, Atakumosa West, Olorunda, Ilesa West, Obokun, Oriade, Orolu, Ife North, Irepodun, and Ejigbo.

On the other hand, the APC won in Boripe, Ilesa East, Ayedire, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Ayedaade, Iwo, Olaoluwa, Isokan, Atakumosa East, Irewole, Ife South, and Ife East LGAs. Before the election, Permanent Voter Cards were taken from 1,479,595 of the 1,955,657 people who were registered to vote in the state.

The PUNCH says that Adeleke's win made the number of states run by the PDP go up to 14, while the number of states run by the APC went down to 21.

But Adeleke's hopes were dashed on Friday when the tribunal threw out the results of the July 16 governorship election. Adeleke is known for his dancing skills and is often called the "Dancing Senator."

Justice Tetsea Kume ruled, with a majority vote, that INEC did not follow the constitution and the rules of the Electoral Act very well.

After that, he subtracted the overvoting from each candidate's score and said that Oyetola had won the election with 314 921 votes, while Adeleke's score dropped to 290 266.

He told INEC to take Adeleke's certificate of return back and give a new one to Oyetola, who got the most legal votes.
