Why I Rejected Nana Addo’s Ambassador Job

During an interview on GTV, Otiko Djaba shared that she had to make the difficult decision to prioritize her work in the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) space and later in national politics over spending time with her four children. She explained that she had worked for sixteen years and had to wake up very early in the morning to travel around the country, making her an absentee mother. Despite this, she expressed that she had the right to spend time with her children and acknowledged the impact it had on them.

Djaba revealed that declining an invitation to Italy and transitioning from development work to politics was the best decision she ever made. She expressed gratitude to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for giving her the opportunity to work in 98 communities, something that would have been impossible without their support.

As a loyalist of President Nana Addo, Djaba informed him of her decision to step away from politics and expressed her intention to relax and enjoy time with her family. Before joining the government in 2017, she served as the NPP National Women’s Organiser and played a role in calling for fasting and prayers during a time of internal conflict within the party leading up to the 2016 general election.
