Why Mahama is launching his Campaign in the NDC’s ‘World Bank’

Late last week, former President John Dramani Mahama declared his intention to stand as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.

Alongside Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a former governor of the Bank of Ghana, and Kojo Bonsu, President John Dramani Mahama is the favourite. He will officially launch his campaign at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Sokode, Ho in the Volta Region.

“I encourage you to either join me at the Cedi Auditorium at the UHAS or watch a live feed of the launch on my Facebook page or Youtube channel from 9:00am," a flyer announcing the event, which will be followed by a tour, reads.

Mr Mahama, who is launching the campaign internally under the slogan "Building the Ghana we want together", is expected to criticise the current government for its handling of the economy and other controversial policy initiatives.

But political pundits say the decision to launch the campaign in the Volta Region is appropriate because it is the region that would help him win both the party and presidential elections.

They believe that taking his campaign to the area known as the 'World Bank' of the NDC will enable him to share his concerns about the current government, which they believe will be crucial to the NDC's ability to win.

According to Joyce Bawa Mogtari, it will take a qualified professional to undo the damage done by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

She believes that John Dramani Mahama, who served as Ghana's presidency from 2007 to 2017, has the necessary expertise both inside and outside government to do the job.

John Dramani Mahama is the only person whose leadership has the capacity to save Ghana because of his experience both as President and as an ordinary Ghanaian.
