Woman Kills Sister and Newborn Niece over ‘Jealousy and Sibling Rivalry’

In connection with the murders of 18-year-old Yanelly Solorio-Rivera and her three-week-old daughter, Celine, in September, Fresno police in California this week detained two suspects, one of whom is Yanelly's sister.

According to FPD Chief Paco Balderrama, Yarelly Solorio-Rivera, 22, and her boyfriend, Martin Arroyo-Morales, 26, were detained on Wednesday for the double homicide.

According to a police news release, on the morning of September 24, officers were called to a Fresno residence "about a complaint of multiple gunshots heard within the house." Police added that when they entered the bedroom, they discovered the mother and kid "suffering from several gunshot wounds."

According to Balderrama, the young mother was fatally shot while holding her newborn daughter in her own bed. At the scene, both were declared dead.

According to police, the suspects admitted to the killings and told officers where to find the murder weapon.
“We have the murder weapon, a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, and we have a motive – jealousy and sibling rivalry,” said the chief.



The suspects were transported to Fresno County Jail, and both were booked for two counts of murder. It is unclear whether the suspects have legal representation.
