Woman Who Smoked 50 Cigarettes Daily for 7 Years Diagnosed with Deadly Lung Cancer

A woman in the US is fighting for her life after smoking more than a cartridge of liquid from an e-cigarette every day for seven years.

The Daily Mail reports that Amanda Stelzer, who is 34, started vaping in 2015 because her friends told her it would be fun.

She quickly became addicted to the devices and by the end of the week she was going through about eight cartridges of vape fluid. That is the equivalent of smoking 50 cigarettes a day.

In October 2019, she suddenly went to the emergency room because she was having trouble breathing.

The doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, so they sent her to a nearby hospital. For the next 24 hours, she was on a machine to keep her alive.

She had acute respiratory distress syndrome, a life-threatening condition that occurs when a person's lungs become so damaged that they can't get enough oxygen to the rest of the body.

Studies have consistently warned that vaping can damage the lungs and heart in the same way as smoking regular cigarettes.
