Woman allegedly stabs twin sister to death and chops her body into pieces

A 36-year-old woman has been arrested in Ga-Mogotlane village, Limpopo, for killing her twin sister with a knife and cutting her up with an axe.

The crime happened on January 18, and the suspect was caught on January 20, after he had been on the run.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY STABBING TWIN SISTER

The South African Police Service (SAPS) says they were called to a scene of domestic violence and found a woman lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.

Lerato Mphahlele, who was 36 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime.

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, a police spokesman, said that a murder case had been opened. A preliminary investigation showed that the victim's twin sister stabbed her several times after they got into a heated argument. The woman killed the sister again with an axe and then ran away.

"She was found and arrested on January 20, when she was hiding at the house of her boyfriend in a nearby village," he said.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, who is in charge of police in Limpopo, said that the attack on the woman's sister by the suspect was brutal and upsetting.

"We ask people in the community to find peaceful ways to deal with problems at home instead of using violence," she said.
The woman is being charged with murder and will have to go to court on Monday, January 23.
