You do not even deserve reappointment as minister not to talk of being President – Akoto Afriyie told

Ivan Innocent Kyei, a social analyst and youth activist, says Dr Akoto Owusu Afriyie, the former Minister of Agriculture, is unworthy of even being reappointed as a minister, let alone having presidential ambitions.

He claims that the political system in the country has been reduced to a farce, and like many others, he is 'just talking'.

His comments follow those of the former minister, who launched his campaign by declaring that Ghana's economy should be driven by agriculture.

Dr Afriyie Akoto had previously stated, I strongly believe that agriculture will lift Ghana out of poverty and not only ensure food and nutritional security, but also generate the necessary resources to develop other sectors such as industry, health, education and infrastructure in the medium to long term.

But the young activist, in an interview with Captain Smart on Maakye Tuesday, 14 March 2023, said, Nobody should take him (Owusu Afriyie) seriously. He is just talking. Anyone can just talk because they are already in politics. For him to even consider becoming president, he doesn't even deserve to be reappointed as minister.

Ivan said the former minister had the opportunity to oversee the entire agricultural sector for six years but failed to make any significant impact. Therefore, Ghanaians shouldn't take his statements seriously because they are a joke now that he is running for president.

Seven NPP veterans have so far publicly announced their intention to contest for the party's presidency.
