CLASH WITH NAVY, TWO FISHERMEN DEAD

Two fishermen have tragically lost their lives in Tema Newtown while fishing during the closed season.

According to reports, the deceased individuals were among a group of 12 men who were invited by traditional authorities to participate in an annual fishing ritual.

Regrettably, during their time at sea, a group of naval officers who were on patrol allegedly collided their vessel with the canoe, claiming that the individuals on the canoe were intruders.

According to the fishermen, the canoe capsized due to the impact, causing the occupants to be thrown into the sea.

Ten individuals successfully managed to swim ashore in order to save their lives, but unfortunately, the remaining two were unable to survive.

During an interview, a representative from the Traditional Council expressed their disappointment regarding the incident.

He disclosed that the Fisheries Ministry is aware that certain individuals continue to go fishing during the closed season because of their ceremonial practises.

The fishermen, who are deeply angered by the loss of their colleagues, expressed their expectation for the officers to demonstrate improved and professional behaviour.

According to their account, they believe they should have been brought ashore for questioning about their presence at sea rather than being attacked.
