Cecilia Dapaah's resignation was accepted by Akufo-Addo.

Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, resigned after she was implicated in a criminal case, and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo accepted her resignation.

On Saturday, July 22, 2023, in reaction to a report concerning a theft case at her home in Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra, Dapaah submitted her resignation letter to President Akufo-Addo.

Five suspects have been charged with stealing from Dapaah's home, and the matter is currently being heard in Circuit Court.

Dapaah, who was re-assigned from the Ministry of Aviation to the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources in January 2017, wrote in her resignation letter that she did not want her personal problems to interfere with government business. She said that she would be happy to assist in whatever way the state's investigating authorities needed.

The theft and the large amounts of money that were allegedly taken from Dapaah's residence have been widely reported in the media.
But Dapaah made it clear that the numbers published in the media don't match up with what she and her husband told the police.

According to Dapaah's resignation letter, he decided to step down because "I am resigning therefore because I do not want this matter to become a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time."

Dapaah thanked President Akufo-Addo for giving her the opportunity to serve the country and hoped that, once the facts of the matter were known, her integrity would be reinforced.

The political climate and the continuing theft probes have yet to be affected by these new changes.
