Benjamin Mendy to play for Lorient

Five days after being exonerated of rape charges, former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy joined with Lorient of France's Ligue 1.

The left back's two-year term with City ended this summer, and he has now signed a similar deal with the French club.

On Friday, the charges of rape and attempted rape against him were dropped by the Chester Crown Court judge presiding over his case.

After standing trial in January, Mendy was found not guilty on all counts of rape and sexual assault.
