In Sunyani's 2023 BECE, girls outnumber boys.

The Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Mark Godfred Doma, has announced that 4,856 candidates would take the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year.

They are made up of 2,333 boys and 2,523 girls from the Municipality's 63 public and 57 private schools, he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani.

Mr. Doma stated that the applicants were taking the exam in 14 different locations, with 14 supervisors and 18 deputy supervisors, as well as 166 invigilators, and he advised them to work independently and to avoid any sort of malpractice.

He urged the supervisors and invigilators to refrain from practises that could frighten the candidates and damage their performance, and he also counselled the candidates to be courageous and confident when taking the examination.

Mr. Doma reminded the candidates that the BECE questions were nothing new from what they had learned in school and warned them not to bring any foreign or unapproved materials to the examination venues.

As a result, he warned them against examination malpractices and recommended them to concentrate and perform independent work because malpractices would result in the cancellation of their papers and examination results, truncating their education and stifling their future dreams and jobs.
