Kwesi Appiah to Asante Kotoko, “This season will not be an easy one”

Interim Management Committee (IMC) member James Kwesi Appiah thinks the next 2023/24 football season will be difficult for Asante Kotoko.

Asante Kotoko's owner and life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has appointed a four-person Interim Management Committee (IMC) to handle club business in the interim.

The 12-member board of directors under Dr. Kwame Kyei and the management team under Nana Yaw Amponsah arrived to this conclusion after their terms in office ended.

The new IMC consists of Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, the Kontomponiaferehene and a chartered accountant; James Kwesi Appiah, the former coach of the Black Stars; Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, the new head coach; and Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, the new administrative manager.

James Kwesi Appiah, a former coach of the Black Stars, said Akoma FM that the forthcoming season would be difficult for Asante Kotoko but that he is still positive about the team's chances.

He said that once they have a permanent coach in place, they will evaluate the departing players and look to bring in fresh talent. Even though certain key players are presently away at the national camp (Black Galaxy), he is confident that the team will be ready after only six weeks of intense training.

Kotoko's season won't be easy, but once they have a permanent coach, "he (the Coach) will be looking at players who will be leaving and recruiting new ones to replace them," as the manager put it.

Unfortunately, some of our players are in the national camp (Black Galaxy), which will have a minor impact on our preparation for the upcoming season.

But we'll make do with what we have and make sure the rest of the team is getting the care it needs.

The Porcupine Warriors placed fourth in the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League season. Meanwhile, the team has opted to skip the forthcoming GHALCA Top 4 competition as part of their ongoing process of restructuring.
