Mahama: Leadership should not be used to victimise others.

Former President John Dramani Mahama advised graduates not to use leadership positions to advance personal or sectional partisan goals at the expense of the organisation or nation they represent.

“You must unite and develop our country, not victimise and settle personal scores,” he stressed.

Former President Mahama spoke at the 2023 Academic City University College graduation in Accra.

“Do not join these self-centred models of leadership, but I expect you to provide leadership that will strengthen the public service, promote competent-based staff engagement and strengthen systems in both the public and private sectors,” he said.

He advised graduates to prepare for leadership roles and use their skills to solve problems at family, church, business, and beyond.

Former President Mahama said leadership was thrilling when one concentrated and pursued a noble objective to serve the best interests of the people, but it was full of problems and no one could avoid them.

He encouraged them to work hard, be honest, compassionate, tenacious, and patriotic.

“Our unwavering commitment to fostering a rich learning environment centred around STEAM, Entrepreneurship, and Ethics, has truly shaped a winning formula for any student who joins our academic family,” stated Academic City University College founder Mr. Dev Varyani.

Over the past four years, he had grown, discovered himself, and excelled academically.

The Founder believed your skills and contacts here will boost their careers and help them achieve their dreams.

With your knowledge, passion, and determination, bring your exciting ideas and breakthroughs to the world.

Make your country and college proud by impacting society,” he added.

Due to his great leadership and guidance, Professor Fred McBagonluri, Academic City's Founding President, has helped the nascent University compete well with well-established schools in the region.

He pledged to support the institution to unprecedented heights.

“Together, we will ascend towards success and have a significant impact on education,” he stated.

Prof. McBagonluri stated the University had helped students become resilient, caring, and intellectually curious.

“We believe you can change the world,” he stated.

He encouraged them to be naïve, see setbacks as opportunities, build genuine relationships, and play with chaos.

The best graduating student was computational science student Daniella Ishioma Omenogor.
