Mahama is a threat to the public not NPP - Prof Mandora

Former leaders may try to retake positions of leadership as political landscapes change. Before casting their votes, however, it is necessary for citizens to evaluate these candidates' backgrounds and objectives. The approaching elections in Ghana present a special problem because a former president is running for office again without acknowledging the fact that he mismanaged the economy while in office.

In looking back at history, it is important to recognise that this former president had previously held the position of highest office in the nation following the passing of his predecessor and had been elected as substantive President after that. However, he was unable to win re-election after serving a term and a half without having a significant impact on the public sector or the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.

This raises questions about his capacity to keep their word and effectively lead the country as was envisioned. While it's true that people can learn from their mistakes, it's important to give careful thought to a prompt rejection of the past president before electing a leader who has already been rejected twice by the electorates on the same party platform.

My issue with H.E. John Dramani Mahama's campaign is the possible risk he poses to the public coffers of regular Ghanaian taxpayers. I believe it is crucial to assess his prior accomplishments and decisions made while in office. During his tenure, the public sector saw recurrent mismanagement, theft of money, misappropriation, a high rate of corruption, incompetence, and a lack of accountability and openness.

Ghanaians, in particular my colleagues' students, should keep in mind the chaos the former president produced in a number of sectors prior to his defeat in the 2016 general elections.

We should all be reminded of his administration's handling of the Burkina Faso guinea fowl scandal, the three months out of three years teachers payment system, the cancellation of the allowances for teacher and nursing training, the graduates unemployment association, and many other issues, even though he has the opportunity to run for reelection. What will occur if he is only eligible for one more constitutional term?

Because of the world financial crisis, Covid-19, and the Russia-Ukraine war, Ghanaians should look at alternative candidates who exhibit a fresh perspective, unwavering honesty, and a demonstrated commitment to public service rather than supporting a previous president with a dubious past. It is crucial to understand that, instead of propaganda and the customary lies of the NDC, we are living in an era of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Elections in 2024 must be viewed critically, thus this is vital. Even if a past president could evoke feelings of familiarity or nostalgia, it is crucial to put the needs of the populace before one's own feelings.

By taking into consideration alternate candidates who have integrity, competence, loyalty, and a sincere commitment to national progress, Ghanaians can pave the way for a brighter future with more entrepreneurially oriented leaders. As such, fellow students or citizens should exercise caution regarding the former president's bid.
