Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister for Chieftaincy and Religions Affairs, stated that the renovation project for the Northern Region House of Chiefs stalled due to payment issues.
According to him, as a consequence, the contractor, Malycon Limited, requested that the first phase of the project be halted.
Mr. Asamoah Boateng was responding to a query from Mr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, an MP for Tamale Central representing the National Democratic Congress, on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday.
Currently, a new contractor was on-site, and completion was anticipated in April 2024, he reported.
Mr. Murtala Muhammed inquired as to why the Northern Regional House of Chiefs' building renovation had stagnated.
According to Mr. Asamoah Boateng, the contract was upgraded, repackaged, and re-awarded, and the project's scope was expanded.
"...Mr. Speaker, on March 8, 2023, the Northern Regional Coordinating Council re-awarded the contract to Messrs. Brison Construction Company Limited at a contract sum of Five Million, Two Hundred and Fifty-One Ghana Cedis, Fifty-One Pessewas (GH5,025,263.51)," he told Parliament.
