President Nana Addo redefines Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

Accra, 24 July, GNA – The founder of the Atta Mills Institute, Mr. Koku Anyidoho, thanked President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government for fixing up Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

After seeing the park, Mr. Anyidoho said, "In fact, I am really impressed."

"After 25 years, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park hadn't gotten a real facelift. At that point, the ponds, which are big draws, weren't working well, which made people less likely to go there.

Also, the roof of the museum leaked every time it rained, which made it hard to show people around. In the VIP lounge, where most VIP guests of the State signed the visitor's book after their walk, things were the same.

Also, the main hallway leading to the bathrooms and parts of the bathrooms were in a terrible state.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Anyidoho said that when he was working to rebuild Asomdwe Park, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum wasn't anything to write home about. "One of the things that pushed me to rebuild Asomdwe Park was seeing the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum fall apart," he said.

He said it was a good start towards recognising and remembering our heroes. He also said that a lot had been done and that a lot more could be done.

"I've been here for an hour, and after seeing the place, I can say that this is a great way for us all to remember Dr. Kwame Nkrumah," he said.

When talking about how to take care of the building, Mr Anyidoho asked the people to use the Park well and keep it in good shape so that "the next generation can come and see the legacy, achievements, and life of Ghana's first President."

He thanked President Akufo-Addo and his government for fixing up the park, saying that it would not only honour Dr. Kwame Nkrumah but also encourage people to travel within Ghana.

"Look at how the Atta Mills Presidential Library in Cape Coast is being fixed up, and now look at how the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is being built. This is one of the things that the current government is doing to keep the memories of past presidents alive," he said.
