SD Dompo’s Granddaughter reveals Hon. Yelvieldong Bakye Bright Balig is not related to SD Dombo

MP for the Lambussie-Karni Constituency Dr. Yelvieldong Bakye Bright Baligi has been accused of forgery by Mrs. Irene Ponu-Brenyah, the grand-daughter of SD Dombo. Baligi claims to be a direct descendant of SD Dombo.

Mrs. Irene Ponu-Brenyah emphasised how obviously untrue the lawmaker's claim that he is the revered SD Dombo's grandson.

The lawmaker claimed to be the direct grandson of SD Dombo, a patriarch of the family tree that gave rise to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mrs. Ponu-Brenyah, however, has claimed he has no connection to SD Dombo.

Now, I want to be very clear that the imposter's claim that the late Chief S D Dombo is or was his grandfather is demonstrably false. To put it plainly, Hon. Yelvieldong Bakye Bright Balig is NOT related to the Dombos and therefore has a responsibility to fulfil his duties as an honourable member of parliament.

To that end, I urge all decent Ghanaians to see this with the utter disdain it merits," she retorted.

Below is the complete rebuttal.

Contrary Argument: Upper West Region Parliamentarian's False Claim to Represent the Constituency of Lambussie-Karni

A video recording that has gone viral in Ghana has caught my eye. Hon. Yelvieldong Bakye Bright Balig, MP for Lambussie-Karni, makes a claim in an address to a crowd that he is the grandson of the late Chief S D Dombo (may he rest in peace) in the aforementioned recording. If there was anyone in the current Parliament whose ancestry could be traced back to Chief S.D Dombo's family, it was him, he said.

The allegation that Hon Yelvieldong Bakye Bright Balig is the grandson of Chief S D Dombo, as he tried to present to his audience, is obviously incorrect, and I want to make that clear here. My inquiries have led me to believe that the relevant lawmaker comes from the town of Kpare in the Lambussie-Karni District of the Upper West Region. His father is from the palace of the Kpare Chief, I'm informed, and this is common knowledge among those who are familiar with him.

Second, his mother supposedly comes from the palace of the Karni Chief. I've also heard that before he was elected to represent the Lambussie Karni Congressional District, he was a lecturer at the University of Development Studies' former Wa Campus.

For the record, Jirapa-Duori in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region is where the late Chief S D Dombo was born and raised.

Allow me to state unequivocally that the imposter's claim that the late Chief S D Dombo is or was his grandfather is demonstrably incorrect. To put it plainly, Hon. Yelvieldong Bakye Bright Balig is NOT related to the Dombos and therefore has a responsibility to fulfil his duties as an honourable member of parliament.

This is why I am pleading with all decent Ghanaians to disregard it with the disdain it clearly merits.

Mrs.Irene Ponu -Brenyah, the author, is the first grandchild of the late Chief S D Dombo.
