Sarkodie Reveals ‘Try Me’ is not the first record he used to address issues

Sarkodie, a rapper from Ghana, said in a recent interview that he has written songs in response to a wide range of topics, but that there are some issues he avoids because he fears they may cause him to lose his cool.

Sarkodie said that while he has no qualms about tackling controversial subjects in his music, there are some he would rather not talk about in public because of the powerful feelings they may arouse in others.

As the Happy Day rapper put it, "this is not the first time I've done records to address certain issues; I don't know but there are certain things I hate to feed into especially speaking about it because maybe I might lose my cool."

He stressed the need for caution when speaking publicly on sensitive subjects or in private conversations.

In response to Yvonne Nelson's memoir "Try Me," Sarkodie released a diss track in which he made it clear that he was not proud of the single's release.

To paraphrase, "I am not going sit here and say I am super proud of it," he remarked, "the thing is just in a moment how I felt whether be my truth there should have been a way you could have said it."

But right now, he had to sing about his feelings and the truth.

He admitted that there were probably better ways to approach the matter, but he used the music as a means to explain his perspective.

"We could have a conversation if you want to talk about it because it involves me as well," he suggested.

STRONGLY Advised!

Sarkodie: "I didn't tell my team that I recorded 'Try Me' because I didn't want them to have any say in the matter."

Sarkodie has said that he is hesitant to react publicly to questions concerning controversial topics because he fears being used as a scapegoat.

He said that others might take advantage of the fact that he is quiet.

He did, however, concede that there are times when he needs to turn to music as an outlet for his emotions.

He went on to explain, "Every once in a while..." since "people know that Sark doesn't speak, people think they'll say something and know Sark is not gonna speak and is gonna get away with it."
