For years, the Black Stars have been dominated by foreign-based players, with current coach Chris Houghton failing to call up a single home-based player in recent call-ups.
Ghana President Nana Akufo Addo believes Premier League champions should be given a place on the national team.
When he asked if any of the Medeama players were members of the Black Stars, he was told that none were.
To rapt applause, he added, "People who win the League should have some people in the Black Stars."
Medeama beat the odds to win the championship, defeating Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in an exciting photo-finish campaign.
Ghana's reigning champions paid a courtesy visit to the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, where they met with the President.
Medeama's incredible feat of winning their maiden national championship trophy last season has earned them the opportunity to represent Ghana on the continental level.
With their sights set on making their country proud, they are set to begin their CAF Champions League trip against Nigeria's Remo Stars in the preliminary round.
Medeama will make its Champions League debut in the 2019 season, and the club's management and players have emphasised their dedication to success and showing Ghana's football talent.
