I Can Boldly Say That Ursula Owusu's "Fell Flat" - Sam George Trolls NPP

Ningo Prampram Constituency MP, the Honorable Sam Nartey George, has issued a notice to the public of Communications Minister Ursula Owusu's recent communication on SIM card registration.

It is worth remembering that the minister clarified that anyone unable to complete the registration of their SIM card by the end of August will be banned from using services such as voice and data.

"It will be reviewed at the end of this month [July] and any SIM card not fully registered by the end of August will be blocked from certain services including voice and data," she noted. She added that by this time it will also be more expensive to use unregistered SIM cards.

According to Sam Nartey George, this message from Ursula Owusu "fell flat". Ursula Owusu's plan thus failed. He added that no action was taken by the government or the ministry to allow such a "threat". For this reason, no Ghanaian pays additional fees for using data because he or she has not registered the SIM card with the Ghana Card.

“I can reluctantly and confidently say that the threat that after today you would pay more for telecom services if you didn't register your SIM card has come to nothing. This threat was not technically feasible, logistically possible, or practically feasible given the realities of the sector. That means if you have the opportunity, register for your Ghana Card and SIM card,” he said.

Officially, Ursula Owusu has extended the deadline to September 30 so that all Ghanaians who are struggling to complete the process can do so. The minister has clarified that the ministry or the government will not extend the deadline again.
