Level 300 ICT Student Of UENR Beaten By Other Students Who Mistook Him For A Thief.

A 24-year-old Information and Communication Technology (ICT) level 300 student at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) was hospitalised after being nearly killed by fellow students who suspected him of being a criminal.

ICT student of UENR's 300th level assaulted by classmates who suspected he was a thief.

The victim, identified as William Thompson Jr., was returning late from the school's SRC week celebration with other colleagues when he became a victim of extrajudicial violence.

According to a report by UTV, while they were returning home, one of his colleagues complained of a stomachache and decided to visit one of the dormitories' restrooms. After a reasonable amount of time had passed and he had not returned, they decided to follow up.

During a search for their companion, who had gone to the restroom, Thompson was confronted by some hostel residents on one of the floors of the multi-story building. He explained himself, but four male students attacked him with electrified cables, canes, and other implements, flogging him to death. They resolved to search for Thompson only after his friends and the person who had visited the lavatory returned and could not locate him. Then they heard someone yelling for assistance and rushed to the scene, only to discover him helplessly being attacked.

The incident was reported to the UENR administration, and one of the attackers was apprehended while a search was conducted for the other three, who have since escaped the hostel.

According to reports, the assailants suspected Thompson of stealing their cell phones and other belongings. On his face, back, and other portions of his body, he sustained severe injuries.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the physicians recommended that he be transferred to the regional hospital. He was initially taken to the university hospital.
